A Schoolgirl Reflects on Life

If these are the best days of my life

The schoolgirl said

I'd rather be a boy instead

From what I've seen

The girl I've been

Has been set up for pain and bleeding

Needing by design it's said to play a role

In the history of the world

Along with all the other girls

Giving comfort

Giving pleasure

Giving birth to future generations

Being matron of the nations

Of the world.

I did not choose and

Cannot lose this doubtful honour

Unlike our brothers

Who tear apart our common mothers

Just to be, to take control as if by right

In skirmishes throughout the night

That bring the world more of the same.

The love that dares to shriek its name

The love that isn't always love

As I, a schoolgirl, see it.

I dread the worst days of my life, then,

Cannot imagine what they'll contain

If not more bleeding and more pain.
